Underskirts, also known as petticoats, have been worn for centuries to add volume and shape to outer garments, particularly dresses and skirts. Originating in ancient times, they evolved from simple garments made of linen to more elaborate designs featuring luxurious fabrics and decorative embellishments, reflecting changing fashion trends and societal norms.
